12th Annual Florida Hospital Sports Medicine Conference presented by Florida Hospital Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre Located at 812 E.Rollins Street, Orlando, Fl. 32803 across from Florida Hospital Orlando.
Due to an overwhelming response to this years Florida Hospital Sports Medicine Conference, we have elected to move across the street and extend the registration process. This change will provide the greatest opportunity for all healthcare professionals from around the state of Florida to attend the '12th Annual Florida Hospital Sports Medicine Conference'. Course Objectives
At the completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Describe objective tests for the ankle and how the results of these tests can assist with differential diagnosis of a syndesmosis 'high' ankle sprain.
- Review the anatomy and mechanisms of injury in syndesmosis ankle sprains
- Describe specific shoe characteristics for pathologies involving the feet such as pes plantus.
- Identify specific exercises to improve speed, power and strength in athletes.
- Explain proper form and progressions in building a spreed training workout.
- Describe a strengthening protocol to be used on patients that may benefit from NMES.
- Understand the the evidence in support of neuromuscular electrical stimulation for strengthening patients with various athletic injuries.
- Identify precautions and indications for muscle strengthening with NMES.
- Review the options for functional bracing of the ankle.
- Compare characteristics of functional athletic braces based on need for support vs mobility in the joint
- Select examination findings will be covered as well as appropriate treatment interventions for pediatric orthopedic injuries
- Discussion regarding appropriate rehabilitation timeline in cases withmeniscal replacement
- Define surgical techniques in a meniscal replacement
- Explain the phases of recovery following a spinal cord concussion
- Understand treatment and exercise progressions for return to competition with a high ankle sprain
- Integrate evidence based cleansing, debridement and dressing techniques into clinical practice in the management of acute skin trauma
- Understand the principles of wound management and the goals of evidence based management of acute skin trauma.

Athletic Trainers - Florida Hospital Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine is recognized by the NATA Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers. Provider # P2094.
