Conference Leader Peter Indelicato, MD

Peter A. Indelicato, M.D. Dr. Peter A. Indelicato, University of Florida’s head team physician since 1977, is one of the nation’s leading orthopaedic surgeons in the field of Sports Medicine as he was recently honored by his peers as the first-ever recipient of the National College Team Physician of the Year Award in 2003.

A native of New York, Dr. Indelicato attended New York Medical College and received his medical degree in 1969. He successfully completed his orthopaedic residency training at NYU and spent two years in the US Navy serving as a staff orthopaedic surgeon at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas. Following this, he served as a sports medicine fellow at the well known Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic clinic participating in the care of the Los Angeles Rams, Lakers, Dodgers, and Kings. In 1977, he was appointed as assistant professor in Orthopaedics Surgery and Director of Sports Medicine at UF.

His name has been published in “The Best Doctors in America” in eleven different years most recently in 2007. He has been an honorary member of the National Athletics Trainer Association since 1984 and received its “Outstanding Services” Recognition Award in 1991. Indelicato has also been elected a member-at-large to the American Orthoapedic Society for Sports Medicine’s Board of Directors and also served as chairman for the Council of Delegates. He currently is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedics Society of Sports Medicine, the Florida Orthopaedic Society and is a founding member of the Southeastern Conference Sports Medicine Committee. Recently, he has been selected to serve as president of the Herodicus Society, a premier group of international recognized Sports Medicine surgeons.

He has lectured extensively around the country on the recognition and management of athletic knee and shoulder injuries. He has been a pioneer in advancing newer techniques in repairing ACL injuries of the knee. Over the past 24 years, he has been invited to speak in several countries outside the United States regarding similar topics. He has made a total of 50 lectures internationally.

In 1989, he was appointed as Associate Team Physician for the Miami Dolphins and served in that capacity until 1996 when he became an orthopaedic consultant for the Dolphins. Currently he is the Wayne Huizenga Professor and Chief of Sports Medicine at Gainesville’s newly built state-of-the-art Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Institute.
