PELVIC HEALTH REHABILITATION

Physical Therapists can offer evaluation and treatment for pelvic floor disorders . Our therapists receive extensive post-graduate education and hands-on training in this specialty area.

We offer specialized treatment with the following amenities:

  • Private treatment rooms in a discrete and comfortable environment
  • Individualized treatment programs
  • One-on-one-care
  • State-of-the-art biofeedback, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound.

The customized treatments may include:

Manual Therapy:

  • Restore pelvic and lumbar symmetry, reduce muscle tension, improve joint mobility, increase flexibility, and address scar tissue adhesions.
    • This may include: soft tissue mobilization, skin rolling techniques, trigger point release, visceral mobility/motility, scar tissue/adhesion release, strain/counterstrain, manual deep stretching, myofascial release, nerve/neural tension releases, and joint mobilization.

Modalities:

  • Biofeedback with external, vaginal, or rectal sensors to decrease hypertonus, to assist with pelvic floor muscles or core muscles, and to improve strength, endurance, and coordination.
  • Electrical stimulation with external, vaginal, or rectal electrodes to assist with pain relief or facilitate pelvic floor contractions.
  • Ultrasound, Interferential Stimulation (IF) and Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS).

Special Home Equipment:

  • Home units available for vaginal/rectal biofeedback or electrical stimulation
  • Options available for dilators or vaginal/rectal weights/cones.

Exercise Instruction:

  • Provide skilled instruction for appropriate exercises for pelvic floor, core stabilization, lumbar stabilization.

Functional Re-Training:

  • Improve the coordination and timing of abdominal and pelvic floor muscles, correct faulty movement patterns, and restore body mechanics and postural alignment to achieve proper muscle balance.

Life Management Strategies:

  • Management of bladder diaries and bladder retraining, toileting positions, general dietary guidelines for bowel and bladder issues.
