Florida Hospital Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing Program:
We specialize in oral, sensory-motor feeding evaluations and treatment as well as modified barium or "Rehab" swallow studies to provide assessment and intervention for all types of oral-motor, feeding and swallowing difficulties/disorders.
What are the benefits?
We are medically based but incorporate a child-focussed, family centered approach to therapy. With Florida Hospital you have security in knowing each therapist is a specialist in the medical and clinical aspects of pediatric dysphagia.
Our Clinics and Teams:
Pediatric Feeding Clinic - We provide a free service to the community for caregivers and babies birth to 3 months old who may be experiencing oral-motor, feeding or swallowing difficulties at home. Just call us at (407) 303-5620 to schedule a free screening!
Pediatric Feeding/Swallowing Team - Feeding evaluations are provided to assess all aspects of your child's feeding experience and identify and feeding or swallowing difficulties. We look at oral-motor structures and functions as well as the method of presentation, type and texture of food, and sensory input that occurs during mealtime to ensure a through assessment and intervention plan.
Rehab Swallow studies/modified barium studies are sometimes needed to identify if a child is aspirating (food entering the lungs) when eating or drinking. We assess the need for diet modification or positioning options which may reduce or eliminate aspiration.
Feeding/Dysphagia (Swallowing) Treatment - Therapy is provided in an oral and sensory-motor model focussing on:
Increasing tone and strength of oral musculature
Improving feeding skills and coordination
Integrating sensory input into feeding/swallowing routines
Diet and feeding modifications to avoid aspiration
